My Story…
I was lucky enough to be immersed in nature as a child and have a backyard filled with vegetables, fruit trees, composting systems, chooks and now bees! This childhood gave me a love for the environment and biodiversity.
After receiving a bee hive for my 14th birthday I am now a new generation of apiarist. A teenage beekeeper who is sharing my passion for bees and the environment with all ages.
With an oversupply of honey and requests to speak to children about my passion I set up my business - Luke’s Bees. My business now sells local, raw honey and delivers “Bee Incursions” to schools, festivals and community groups.
My Bee Incursion Program educates and inspires others to be more aware of the importance of bees in our environment. My passion involves sharing my knowledge and I recognize the importance of continued study to keep up to date with new methods and ideas linking bees to our food production and sustainable future.
“Bees play a critical role in preserving and maintaining the world's ecosystems and help promote biodiversity through pollination.”
One-third of the world's food supply relies on bees to pollinate crops that assist in producing our food. 70 of the top 100 food crops are responsible for supplying 90% of the world's nutrition. These crops are pollinated by bees, therefore bees are responsible for billions of dollars in crop value every year throughout the world.
Together we need to create sustainable, eco friendly towns and cities that support our natural ecosystems, including our bees. We all must plant more flowering plants and not use chemicals in our backyards.
I will continue to share my knowledge and inspire others - bee education is essential for understanding the important link between bees and our sustainable future. Without bees the future of our food production would be in grave danger.
